My platy gave birth around 12 days ago and I have noticed now that it looks pregnant again ( as i can see the babies devloping inside the female) when shall i put her back into the breeding tank? She looks heavily pregnant, but not as though she is going to burst just yet, so what do you suggest?

Id watch for her sitting round bottom of tank and hiding and move her then, they get a very large black dot near their anus when they about to pop.
If the breeding tank is free then you could move her in now but i would suggest bagging her and let her float on top of breeding tank to prevent shock, thats unless your breeding tank is at the same temp
wait a little longer and if u think she is close to having them u will have to store the babies somewhere else suitable. u cant put the mother and them together. no dought she is pregnant again good luck!
put her back now. do you have room for more babies? if not, raise the soon to be born baibies until they are a little bit older and give them to your buddies... or sell em to the pet store =)
To be on the safe side id stick her in there now it can't hurt the last thing you want is your fish eating the babies.. Platy's are livebearing fish they're nearly almost always pregnant im afraid just watch out that your tank doesn't become over crowded with her offspring she seems quite a busy lady lol

I would put her in an another tank if her older babies are still too small. if they are small but too big to eat then you can put her in the same breeding tank. make sure that your tank is not overcrowded! Good Luck!
The gestation period for all livebearers is 28 days, so you still have at least 2 more weeks before putting her in
But consider getting a second breeder, because the others will stil be to small to let go, unless you have a good planted tank with live plants
The can have up to 6 times fry without a male around because they can store the sperm for that long

They can give birth every four weeks so I'd leave her a while yet. The last week when she looks really big will be soon enough.
You also need to consider what you will do with the fry. The only ones my LFS will take are the Mickey Mouse preferably the Silver variety. (He says he'd be over-run with live-bearers if he took all the ones he was offered) You can quickly become over-stocked with fish. Even when you don't try to breed a few fry make it to adult-hood.
Female live bearers like Platys and Guppies seem to be permanently pregnant if there is a male around and even if there isn't they seem to be able to utilise sperm from a previous mating because having given birth to one brood they immediately set about producing another whether a male is present or not.
As far as putting them in a separate tank is concerned though, it rather depends upon whether you've got the space or some outlet for hundreds of young.
Since most aquarists run out of both fairly quickly, the birth eventually seems to take place in the community tank where the young have to take their chances as they do in the wild.
Leave her in her tank, don't move her, if you do, she is going to suffer a lot of stress and could absorb her babies!
