Answers:
Apistograms are S.A. cichlids that should go nicely into a planted tank. You will want plants in the 5.5 as well, and you will not want to skip waterchanges. Bolivian rams are another nice choice. A pair of keyhole cichlids would be fine in a 10 gallon.
1 nothing, brichardi are africans and will not fit a 10 gallon when they reach over 6-7 inches.
2: for a5.5 gallon go with a betta.
get an electric yellow for your 10 gallon (just one) and a betta for your 5.5 gallon
make sure of 25% weekly water changes and twice a day meal times!
I wouldnt recommend putting a cichlid in a 10gallon tank they need 20gallon each minimum and a pair(male and female) needs 25-30gallons each.
The 5.5 gallon tank can be a betta.
While it has been known for brichardis in aquariums to reach 6 inches, their more standard adult size is 4 inches, but at 4 inches in length, these fish also have girth which needs to be included in the calculations for size of tank. Additionally, they also require more tank size because of their semi-aggressive nature. For one 4 inch size brichardi, you need to have a 30 gallon tank. This is not just my opinion. This is the opinion of aquarists and aquatic experts. A brichardi is an African cichlid. Whether you have African cichlids or New World cichlids, the 30-50 gallon per fish rule applies. Thus, you really cannot have this fish in a 10 gallon tank. Maybe it's small enough now to get away with it for a little while, but in a very short time, you must get a 30-50 gallon tank or you will see this fish slowly die. For a 5.5 gallon, you could have one, but at the most, only a pair of bettas. Really, that tank is far too small for anything else. Your 10 gallon could house 5-7 neon tetras, for example, or any other like amount of equally small fish and be a comfortable environment.
