New goldfish... fighting?

I got a goldfish about 10 days ago, who my daughter named Dindin!! he has been swimming around in his tank quite happily. I have just added my second goldfish... she has called him brekky! I added him as a friend. and din din has gone up to him and seemed to like bite his tail a couple of times. Are they fighting? He doesnt seem very happy about the new arrival! Will this settle down? The are now at opposite ends of the tank swimming like loonys!

Personally I have not had any incident like what you mention, thats a goldfish attacking another goldfish for whatever reason. The occasional peck when they get into each others way happens but not a premeditated attack unless the victim is sick.
The only explanation that I can come up with is that Brekky is not a "HE" but a "SHE". And Dindin is just doing what horny goldfish does.
To identify the sex of Dindin and brekky, you can identify the male by the tubercles appearing on their gill plate. This looks like white spot but the appears on the gill plates and pectoral fins.

Ands also on males their anal vent tends to concave (sunk in) and on the female their anal vent or breeding tube during mating season is convex (sticking out).
Attached is an image of both male and female, the male is on the left and female on the right. http://www.chinagoldfish.net/text/gongmu...
Hopes this helps.
.
yes sounds like he's fighting the less fish in a tank the better . he might get over it but being male i doubt it lol.
Hi,you have found out the hard way.when buying fish you should always get 2.Give dindin time he or she should soon accept brekky.Good Luck
Sorry! I have no idea.
I wish I could help.
Be careful or dindin might have brekky for tea!
i like clownfish
Hi im sorry about your fish but you should but one of them in a smaller tank right next to the bigger tank and maybe the fish will get used to each other then after lets say 6 days but them both back and they should be friends!! =]
the old one might be hungry or just territorial. when adding a new fish to an aquarium feed the old fish and mix around the decorations so all the fish including the new one have a chance to establish their own territory.
