One of my fish came from a badly neglected 'swamp' & was bright red. 4 months on it is turning white.Normal?

Not sure if it's loosing scales or just changing colour? It's eating ok.
Answers:
You took a native fish out of it's fishery??

That's illegal in most states you know.
And don't put it back now. Why? It may now contain a virus or disease that could infect native stock and wipe them out.
Next time remember - never fool with taking native stock - nor put any fish you've had into a wild fish population.
NEVER.

What kind of fish is it?
Here is a couple of pages that tell a little about your golden orfe. http://www.ornamentalfish.com/whats_new.

It's probably just changing colour, and that could have to do with the food you are feeding it. They like being in weeds and alge, and feed on plants. Do you have it outside in a pond? They need a lot of room, like a 500 gallon cold water pond. They also like to be kept in a group, with a minimum of three fish. If it is eating ok, and acting normal, it is probably fine. I have seen goldfish loose their colour as they got older, when kept in a heated aquarium.
