Quick, I gave my fish a treatment for parasites that is not supposed to be for elephant noses..?

And now I think he's dying. His skin looks like it's peeling and he keeps drifting sideways like he's losing his balance. I called the fish store and they said to put him in a different tank declorinize the water and add some tap water but I think it's worse. What should I do?
Answers:
You need to do a massive waterchange in the tank that is medicated. You may have already caused too much damage, but if you act quick, you might be able to save him. Many medications will also kill your biological filter, so you will need to monitor your ammonia and nitrite levels over the next couple of weeks.
it is unlikely that the treatment is taking the skin off your elly nose you don't put tap water in with it. you do need to separate the fish if possible and put it in old mature tank water if you have any or if you know of anyone else who has within your tanks water make up.If not possible do a 60% water change + Aquasafe or whichever water conditioner you use.follwed by 10% each day for 4 days but watch for ammon and nit peaks if you are treating for parasites it is highly likely that your delicatly skined elephant nose is one of the most infected and 'velvet' apears like peeling skin. remember check temps etc keep the tank dark, gentle filtration and dont disturb. Go to your aquatic centre with a clear discription of the desease and they will advise on correct treatment when identified as some are gentle enough for your fish good luck
