I just got the above for my 2 little goldfish, but when I put the light on I don't think they like it? basically does anyone know if goldfish should have the light on in the tank at night or not?? and do they even like it?? mine seem to dart when I put it on, thanks xx

i have the exact same tank first of all great choice there amazing secondly 12 hours a day is sufficient secondly in our size tanks we are only soposed to have very small fish aka
danios or zebras white cloud mountain minnows this is down to the amonia levels i have one baby lack moor .kia and two white cloud mountain minnows .
they are all fine and the amonia levels are always spot on.
py if you think the light is to bright you can change the bulbs contact
reef-one.com and contact them and they will advice you how to do this .

ps remeber that our tanks are acrylic witch reflect a light a lot more than glass. so a i would say no more than 12 hours a day and my black moor is fine with it. have you bought the volcano for it?
the volcano is great as it has voliage attached to it witch offers shad fromthe heat and the light of the light.
ps if you are still worried about it contact reef one and ask about there 24 hour light its a light exclusively for our tank it creates a natural setting 24 a day you never turn it off it has a 24 timer in it it is automaticlly controled by the on board computer so you never have to worry about when yo turn it of its about another fifty pound though.

ps if your goldies are a bout a inch in size they will be perfect. just dont be tempted to buy anymore as you will need a bigger tank witch is what happened to me and i ended up with a 10 foot long tank by 3 by 2 foot.

you are scaring them! Only use the light for short amounts of time during the day if needed. You will encourage the growth of green slime and other water dwelling microbes which will cause your water to need cleaning and filtering often! You should not have the light on for more than 6 hours a day I would recommend. They will get used to the light eventually but they are 'goldfish' brains so it may never happen!! lolol
Firstly, never leave a light on for 24 hours, things don't happen that way in nature.
I don't know how bright the light is but remember, if it's too bright, fish don't have eylids and can't protect themselves from it.
Another problem you'll get if the light is too bright is exessive algal growth.
Basically I think you're scaring them and whatever you do try not to switch on a bright light if the light in the rest of the room is dim. We don't like sudden changes in intensity and neither do fish.
sorry, but this is wrong.
excessive amount of light doesn't cause algae. too much phosphate in water and not enough fast growing water plants are causing algae.
a typical tropical day has about 12 hours of light. gold fishes aren't tropical fishes so they would be ok with more light, as they are just some carp breeding forms.
but, as they are carps, which get very large, your baby bioorb is far too small for them. a tank 10 times as big would be just nearly enough, actually.
in your tank you can only keep shrimp and snails safely, everything else is animal cruelty.
10-12 hours during the day on and 12-14 hours off at nights
