Ready to breed?

I read that when a goldfish is blowing bubbles a lot, it is ready to breed, which brings me to my question. My goldfish recently began blowing bubbles quite a bit and he is five months or so old and lives in a decent sized fishbowl. I know captive animals don't HAVE to breed, but would it affect the health of my goldfish in anyway? Would it decrease it's life span or anything?
Answers:
whats decreasing your goldfish lifespan is keeping it in a bowl.
You will need a tank, goldfish are not small and the smallest type of goldfish will get over a foot long.

Breeding goldfish is hard unless you know what your doing, you will need to have a 100 gallon tank with a group of 6 goldfish and allow them to breed in a spawning mop.
They are sexual mature at 1 year old, so then the males will grow white dots on their gill plates and pectoral fin rays durring the breeding season.
Goldfish no matter what the size need a 30g tank with a well filtered tank. The waste this fish produces in a bowl will kill it because of ammonia poisoning.
It is almost impossible to breed goldfish in a tank even a 100g tank, they need a pond with a substrate to lay there eggs in.
When the males are ready to breed they get white dots on there head and fins many people think this is ich or ick but it is not.
Since your a reptile guy i will put it in your perspective, its like putting a Russian Tortoise in a 20g tank, or a 10g tank. most common goldfish grow 8-12" some even 24" in a pond environment.
Here's an article about fish breeding basics.
